Does anyone know when recruiting season starts for PE internships?

Private equity internship interview season is not as structured at the undergraduate level as is the private equity full-time interview season. However, for MBA candidates, the hiring season is going on right now for the large or mega funds such as KKR, TPG… From mid-market and smaller funds, internship opportunities pop up typically every month from now until the summer. You just need to be constantly checking job sites at your university or reaching out directly to funds for opportunities.

On campus in New York we have seen minimal PE internship activity so far (NYU and Columbia). Same thing for hedge funds. The banks have started recruiting for interns though.

Even if you don’t see PE internship opportunities, I strongly suggest you actively reach out to PE shops and try to get yourself in the door by offering to work part-time during your coursework (for pay or without pay). This will give you a strong edge when going through full-time recruiting.

PE Internships are very difficult to get, for one reason that they are difficult to even find. There aren’t a lot of PE internships available, so you do have to be aggressive and proactive to find the opportunities yourself.
