I am getting an MBA from a respected school, but it is non-core. I am a career changer and looking to move into Investment Banking after I finish my MBA next year. I see from other posts that boutique is probably my best route. Are there any other tips that you guys would like to share to point me in the right direction?

Hey Nicholas – I would even suggest looking into alternative routes slightly outside of investment banking. I don’t normally say this but the IB environment is awful right now: banks are seeing M&A fees down double digits in 1Q and so far M&A volumes are down close to 20% in 2Q so job cuts are only going to get worse from here.

Check out restructuring or possibly jump right into a buyside position at a smaller fund. Also – target Wells Fargo, they are the only bank I know actively building out their investment banking division and are more likely to be hiring right now.

    Good luck!
